Bike fitting should take account of each individual rider – their physical attributes, the type of riding they do, how frequently they ride and their aspirations are amongst some of the considerations. Ignoring the fitting or resorting to an averaging system is often inappropriate as not all of the individual’s data is captured to make a comprehensive assessment. Symptoms of a weak position include an aching back or neck, soreness of the wrists, feet or knees or  just general discomfort  which limits your cycling enjoyment. Alternatively, you may notice your bicycle doesn’t handle well – you may feel out of balance and out of control.

The correct diagnosis and resolution of the issue is the skill of the bike fitter. Bike Fitting at Le Beau Velo is a fundamental analysis of the Bike and the Body. The balance to achieve optimum performance on a bicycle is the harmony of bike position and body balance. We do not use systems that teach by rote. Understanding a rider, prioritizing areas of development, conveying knowledge based on practical experience and doing so in a personable manner are the key features.

Whether we use the fitting jig to convey the experience of riding in a new position to highlight the improved performance or whether the physio's bed and exercise mat are required to alleviate postural shortcomings, you will be left with a feeling that clearly the people you are working with understand you, your sport and your development requirements.

This is a personal and professional consultation - conforming to the ‘norm’ or averages of statistics is likely to result in a poor interpretation when it comes to your riding position, frame size selection and ultimately performance on the bicycle.

Ideally think about a bicycle fit before considering a bicycle purchase to avoid any expensive issues later.

Hey Mal

Just wanted to let you know that I did the Blenheim Sprint Triathlon on Saturday and took 7 minutes off my 2011 bike time - I absolutely LOVED racing on my bike.  The handling was fantastic, I went faster downhill and round corners than I normally do because it just felt more comfortable.  Changing gears was also easier.  I even overtook some men hehe.

So thank you so much for the advice and help in getting my bike to the shape it is today, it sure made one heck of a difference!

Steph
